How to make money blogging

The process of making money from blogs is really easy in theory. Generally successful bloggers write about a topic that they know lots about and are generally excited to share on a daily basis. Once their blog has enough pages and has started to gain some traction they will generally sell advertising on the site and build a mailing list so that they can offer affiliate offers to their list.

This is in theory…usually what happens is that the blogger will be excited to get going on his or her blog and after a few weeks give up because the blog is not making any money or they didn’t realize how much time and effort it was going to take to get the blog off the ground. Added to that the blogger may have chosen a niche that is not that big or one that does not have many people interested in following on the internet.

So…my advice to you if you want to make a bunch of money is:

  1. Make sure the niche that you are looking to start a blog about is full of people looking for it online
  2. Know that you are looking at at least a years worth of work before you will see big results

Once your blog gets the traction and people are reading and commenting regularly then you will be able to build a list, do affiliate offers, and product or service reviews to really start making money. Remember the big idea is to give people something daily or as close to daily as possible and make sure that the content you provide has a ton of value. Your blog should be entertaining, interesting and full of information so that your readers come back daily and spread the news about your blog. IF you are able to do that and are consistent for a year, the making money part of the blogging lifestyle will take care of itself. The real secret is knowing that you have to grind it out for a while before you start seeing the money.

If you are covering topics that you are truly interested in, enjoy and would talk about even if you weren’t going to make money from it, then it is more likely that you will be a blogger for the long haul. What I’ve outlined here is a basic version of how you can make money blogging. So get started today and come back here for other tips and strategies that I will be sharing soon about blogging.

Beating Procrastination

Procrastination – The Killer of all hopes and dreams…

I kind of talked about procrastination in my previous post writing good blog posts, in this post I want to get a little more specific and define it better and also give you some tips that I use to beat the big, bad, procrastination monster. It’s true that we all experience procrastination at times, it’s that feeling where we just feel  stuck like we can’t move forward with that we’re trying to get done. There are a few sources of procrastination and one of the main sources is fear. We fear failure, success, judgment of others and many other things most of which doesn’t really matter.

So by letting go of these fears that slow us down we can move past procrastination. So what are some ways we can get this fear to let go of us?  Well, the answer is kind of in the question. The first step I take is to let go of my worries, to become aware of my thoughts and to reflect on why I think that I am fearful of success or failure or whatever it may be.

When you become aware that the reason why you are not doing something you should be doing is a certain fear and you identify specifically what that fear is, you are 90% of the way to working past your road block. When the actual block that is slowing you down is illuminated you realize how silly the fear really is. But you must take to the time to become aware, this is where most people fail and yes it does take some effort but it’s certainly worth it.

So stop feeling sorry for yourself. Stop beating yourself up over little things. Stop it and move on!

If you think that the job is too big and you are overwhelmed with the amount of work to be done break your task in to tiny chunks and focus on the amount of work you have completed not on the big mountain you have left to climb. Of-course there is that little voice that always says…”do it later” or you can “catch up tomorrow”…as soon as you hear this voice you must say NO! and ask yourself this question: If not now, when? Because you know “tomorrow” never comes.

Focus on the important 20% of the job first. Get the foundations of what you are trying to get done laid and work on smaller and smaller pieces as you get towards the end of the project. Make a list of all the important things that need to be completed then rank them according to importance. Work on one item at a time and give your full attention to the task at hand. Set a time, place where its going to be quiet and you will have no distractions.

To review:

  1. Become aware of your fears and let them go.
  2. Make a list of important tasks and attack them one at a time breaking them down into tiny chunks.
  3. Set a time and place where you attack the tasks on a daily basis.

Hope that helps…if you have any tips let me know below.
